Masseter Botox
Injections for TMJ and Contouring

The muscle on the side of your face that helps you chew is called the masseter. Masseter Botox is most commonly used to:

  • reduce jaw tension, pain and clenching

  • relieving headaches

  • contouring a square jaw

  • creating a balanced face shape

Botox is an injectable muscle relaxer. When Botox is injected into the masseter muscle, the neurotoxin works by temporarily paralyzing the muscle, relieving symptoms. Masseter Botox, sometimes called jaw Botox, is also used to contour the jawline and creating a balanced face shape

FAQs

  • Wrinkle relaxers encompass various formulations containing Botulinum toxin. Numerous companies manufacture distinct variations of Botulinum-based products, several of which have received FDA approval. Examples of such approved variations include Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Daxxify.

Inspired Aesthetics Medical Spa only orders direct from FDA approved companies.

  • At this time, we are not offering these products. Unlike the Volumizers we use that are all Hyaluronic acid based and dissolvable, these products have non-reversible effects. Scuptra and Radiesse products may have a beneficial effect, however in the event that something goes wrong, for example a vascular inclusion, there could be severe side effects. We believe that we can achieve our patients' goals using safer alternatives.

    • Three days prior to your appointment, you will receive a text message and/or email containing pre-check-in information we may need to start your aesthetics journey with us.

    • You should avoid excessive alcohol consumption in the days leading up to the appointment. Smoking can also increase the risk of complications, so minimizing or avoiding it is recommended.

    • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the appointment. Well-hydrated skin can respond better to the treatments.

    • 24 hours prior to your appointment, you should refrain from taking blood-thinning medications and supplements (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E). This helps minimize the risk of bruising.

  • At the end of your visit with us we will provide you with aftercare instructions. Some of those instructions may include:

    • Try to exercise your treated muscles for the first hour after treatment (e.g. practice frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting). This helps to work the treatment into your muscles. Although this may help your procedure outcome, it will NOT impact your treatment negatively if you forget to do this.

    • Do NOT have a facial, rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours after your treatment.

    • Do NOT lie down or do strenuous exercise for 4 hours after treatment.

    • Avoid any exposure to a sauna, hot tub or tanning for 4 hours after your appointment. This will prevent your blood pressure from rising and thus minimize the risk of bruising after treatment.

    • Please be aware that some, though very few patients, experience a mild headache. You may take Tylenol to help with this for pain relief.

    • If you experience tiny bumps or marks after your appointment, they will go away within a few hours after your treatment.

    • If you experience bruising, rest assured that it will go away. Temporary bruising can last up to one week. It is safe to cover bruising with makeup, if you wish.

    • After the wrinkle relaxer is placed into the targeted muscles, the weakening effect gradually begins anywhere from 3-7 days and is not complete for two weeks. Therefore, optimal results are not seen for at least two weeks.

    • After filler is injected, you may be bruised, red or feel some swelling. We will apply Arnicare Bruise Cream to the area treated to help reduce bruising. Possible bruising and swelling will all go down in time, and you will feel the full effect of filler in about two weeks.

  • Masseter Botox results will last approximately 3 months, initially. However, if you maintain your treatment appointments with the frequency recommended, the duration of each treatment result may last longer than four months.
